Helen Bell

I am the Support Worker for the Elderly at Karis Neighbour Scheme. My job involves visiting isolated and lonely elderly people in Harborne, Edgbaston and Ladywood and recruiting volunteers to befriend them. Volunteers regularly visit an elderly person (or couple) for a cup of tea and a chat. Other volunteers help with one off cleaning, gardening, decorating, one off filing, sorting through post, moving furniture and small DIY chores. I have also organised meals at Christmas and Mother’s Day, and afternoon tea-parties in the summer. There are many elderly people in Harborne who are isolated and need some support. I live in Harborne and really enjoy working within my local community. If you are interested in volunteering in some way, please do get in touch!
